Update on dereks recovery
Donation protected
- Derek has finished his radiation onDec 24th it was the best Christmas gift we could have received ❤️ and now we wait until Jan 10th to go back to Dr. Krisht for a follow up MRI.
- However I need some help from you all or some advise. Since derek has came home from rehab I have been having to give him bed bathes because our bathroom door is too small for his wheelchair to fit through, and anyone who has worked in nursing knows how much those not only suck for the pt but kill your back!!
although we did make it happen one night me and the two boys got him in there and by the grace of God we got him maneuvered into the shower chair. We have taken him over to a friend's house and given him a shower once bless their hearts. Maybe someone knows someone who would be willing to help us out or just adjust our door to where we could get his wheelchair in and out.
- Since Derek had his surgery on Oct 1st it left him with little to no movement on his left side and he is unable to walk, Dr. Krisht was able to remove over 90% of the tumor and the pathology results did come back as glioblastoma stage 4 cancer. Derek went through rehab and is now been home since Oct 30th with home health PT and OT coming to the house. He also started radiation and chemo on Nov 11th which he does every day until Dec 23rd and will continue taking the chemo pill a month longer after and then he will get another MRI to assure its still gone and not growing. We have a great support team, however I still have not been able to return back to work yet and dereks short term disability has ceased. He has filed for disability but it won't begin until the end of March, I don't like asking anyone for anything and I know this time of year is the worst for everyone. Just continue to pray for Derek and our family.(any donations go directly for bills or gas money for his treatments)

A lot of you might already know, on Aug 23rd, our family's lives changed forever when me and our two sons took my husband, Derek, into Baptist ER for what we thought were signs of a stroke. After getting a CT scan, we found out he had a tumor on his brain and swelling that completely shocked and turned our whole world upside down.
On Aug 26th, Derek had a biopsy done at Baptist and was in ICU for four days. He was then moved to a private room where he continued his hospital stay for 2 long weeks, finally getting released without answers other than knowing it was benign. We left only to be readmitted a week later in Hot Springs to CHI St. Vincent hospital for a fever, dehydration, and a UTI. Derek has never fully regained his strength during this whole time and has only gotten worse.
He had another MRI (which makes 3). Now we are at a month with still no pathology results from Baptist Hospital, so St. Vincent demands those and finds out they are inconclusive. They have a neurosurgeon who says he can go back in and get ANOTHER biopsy because he believes it might be MS or myeloma and then have oncology on board after surgery. We also have another second opinion with a very highly recommended neurosurgeon, Dr. Krisht, at St. Vincent Neuro Science Institute. We go see him, and he says glioblastoma and he can completely remove it! No radiation, just 4 days in the hospital, PT after, and chemo. As you can imagine, we were baffled because so many others had told us it was inoperable, but he is the best of the best when it comes to brain surgeries.
I have had to take a leave of absence from my job, which I loved so much, working in the medical field as well. While my husband was going through this, I couldn't concentrate on my work, and with him being in and out of hospitals, someone had to be with him to know what the doctors said because he would get things confused, and with surgeries coming up.
We certainly do not want anyone to think you have to donate anything! Derek and our family would just as much appreciate your prayers. If anything, through all of this, we could care less about the money; we just wanted to share his story and ask that you keep him in your thoughts and prayers, please ❤️ We love each and every one of you, and God Bless!!!
