Derek Bender has always been the kind of friend who puts others first, offering support and kindness to those around him. Now, Derek is facing one of the toughest battles of his life. He was recently diagnosed with stage 3C adenocarcinoma, a cancer that has invaded his presacral space, lymph nodes, and three sacral vertebrae. This diagnosis has changed everything for Derek, and he is preparing for an intensive and challenging treatment journey.
On April 1st, Derek will have a mediport placed in his chest to begin treatment. Starting April 6th, he will undergo radiation and take chemo pills every day except weekends for five weeks. After that, Derek will receive IV chemotherapy for 46 hours, followed by a combination of IV chemo and chemo pills for another 12 to 16 weeks. If the primary cancer remains, he will face another resection surgery before a final surgery to reverse it. This is a long and difficult road, but Derek is determined to fight with everything he has.
Because of the intensity of his treatment, Derek will not be able to work. Donations to this fundraiser will help cover the cost of his medications, therapies, gas, rent, bills, food, and other essentials. Any support—whether through a donation or by sharing this page—will make a real difference for Derek as he faces this challenge. Thank you for standing with him and showing that he is not alone.
