Support Derek Cole's Road to Recovery

Hi, thank you for taking a second to read this. My name is Michaela Cost and I am creating this GoFundMe for my best friend, Kelsey Cole and her family. Her husband, Derek Cole, was in a car accident in Jefferson, ME on 7/31/24. Derek was extricated from the vehicle and brought to Miles where scans were completed. Through those scans they found he had fractured his back and needed to be transferred to Maine Medical Center. He has been through surgery and now has two metal rods in his back. Derek currently sits in the ICU at Maine Med while they monitor him and then he will begin his long road through rehabilitation and recovery. Kelsey and Derek have a beautiful, 4-year-old girl, a lovely dog named Pepper and two cats, Optimus and Esme. As we all know life is so very expensive to begin with and then unexpected tragic events happen like this which add more bills and stress. Due to the injuries, Derek will obviously be out of work for a while. I ask that after reading this, you please consider donating anything you are able to or at least sharing this story.

UPDATE 8/3/24: He’s getting stronger. Able to pull himself up on the bed to readjust when he slides down. IMC (intermediate care unit) is full no beds. But they are happy having him here. No pt today or this weekend. He separated his shoulder so that will be sore. His drainage tube from his back was removed. Still weak on his left lower half but pt will help gain strength.

His nurse today is Thomas and is a travel nurse from the south. They have been talking since I got here but it’s nice to see that he has had good company.
