Support Derek and Michaela's recovery
Donation protected
Derek and his daughter Michaela were in a serious car accident last weekend on the way to take Michaela to MDA camp where she was going to be volunteering as a camp counselor. A car veered into their lane and they were hit head on. They were over three hours away from home in Indiana, and are at a local hospital there still.
Derek is doing ok with one surgery behind him but facing another this weekend, and there will be a long road to recovery. Hoping to get him home soon and get him set up some equipment and modifications to their home. Michaela has head trauma, which will be the hardest injury she will be dealing with, in addition to broken bones in her pelvis and back. She is still pretty confused and not completely aware of what has happened. The goal is to get her to a children's inpatient rehab hospital in Columbus that can help her with recovery. Michaela was just about to start her senior year in high school and we are all sad and unsure of what her path will look like this year and into next since it might not be what she had planned.
Kim is living her worst nightmare as a wife and mother. She was able to travel to be with them both but it is very hard and expensive being far from home, and their other daughter!
Derek and Michaela's recovery is going to be a long road and there are a lot of costs related to this terrible accident - hospital bills, medical equipment, home modifications, new car needs as theirs was totaled, and everything related to Kim’s length of stay to be with them, ie hotel stays, food, etc. Every donation, large or small, helps so they can focus on recovery and strength and not have to worry about bills and money. Thank you for your generosity and please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers.
