Even though the focus of this GoFundMe has shifted I’m going to keep the original story below this updated one.
As I said in my last update, my dad passed away. We were told 3-5 years so we thought there was more time to get things in order for my mom, to get a home and back to work, before he passed. His passing cost more then expected as they hadn’t made it to prepay for everything with the holidays and appointments there wasn’t much free time. Now it’s time to focus on my mom. She needs a home or land to put her camper on with electricity and water. She also has been applying for jobs nonstop with some call backs but no job offers yet. She has been in to the doctor and they say not much has changed but there’s still nothing new to help her. Please continue to share, donate and keep us in your thoughts! If anyone has any leads on anything to help her living or job situation please reach out!
Thank you all!!!
Nikki and all the rest of us!
Hi, my name is Nikki and I have created this GoFundMe to help support my parents, Dennis & Paula Wiltsey. They are dealing with unimaginable, terminal medical problems, as well as not having appropriate housing to stay here in Minnesota through the winter to continue my dad’s treatment and be with family.
All funds raised will be used to cover medical (Gas and car maintenance) and living expenses (they are searching for a place to call home to keep them in Minnesota for my dad's treatments) during this extremely stressful time when my dad can no longer work. My mom is working as much as she can, but it’s just not enough. Unfortunately, the side effects from her illness make working physically strenuous or public-facing jobs next to impossible.
Here is their medical story:
Over seven years ago, my mom was diagnosed with something called MAC or mycobacterium avium complex of the lungs. This is a rare disease in healthy individuals, there are only 114 cases in Minnesota, with only 11 of them being the specific type she has. There is no cure and the treatments they have offered have not improved her situation. When she was diagnosed, they gave her a life expectancy of 7 to 10 years. While she has surpassed the minimum time, she struggles with just breathing as her lungs calcify, but she still keeps going and doing everything for everyone, all of the time.
On March 3rd of this year, my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic small cell lung cancer. He had been struggling with a cough last winter and what was first diagnosed as pneumonia later turned out to be cancer. This happened while they were down in Texas for the winter, and they started treatment in Houston to get him to be able to make it back to Minnesota to continue his treatment. After having a port placed and going through treatment, things seemed to be doing well and scans were looking good. Unfortunately, he’s not been feeling well and went into the emergency room on October 24, and they sent him down to North Memorial in Robbinsdale to try a new treatment. He’s only had two rounds of this new treatment, and we don’t know if it’s doing anything or not at this point, but he is in a lot of pain lately, and it’s affecting his ability to do even the most basic of tasks. He’s worked physical labor jobs his entire life, and now he’s no longer able to work.
My parents are everything to my younger sister Sylvia, 7 grandchildren—Tiffany 23, twins Jase & Elizabeth 12, Astrid 9, Malikai 6, twins Henry & Matthew 3—and of course myself. I just want to try and get them some help so please donate if you feel it in your heart and please share this!
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. I will provide updates when they become available.
