Hi, my name is Dave Steffensmeier and I'm fundraising for my brother Dennis Steffensmeier. Dennis for many years had a passion for listening to music, going to see bands, and also sporting events. He enjoyed hanging out with friends and family and doing simple things like going singing Karaoke. During April of 2021 his energy to enjoy some of these things we take for granted drastically decreased. He got admitted to Bergan Mercy Hospital and after
several tests were diagnosed with a disease called Vasculitis. Vasculitis is a disease that attacks the immune system and hurts your blood vessels by mistake. The Medical staff's biggest concern is
both his Kidneys have been impacted. After 2 weeks in the hospital, the treatment plan required a time-consuming outpatient treatment of dialysis 3 times a week which takes 4 hours each time. This was a tough transition to lose a lot of free time independence that he appreciated he had
in the past. He was hoping that after a few months, his kidneys would get closer to normal and that he didn't need dialysis. His Kidney Doctor is not optimistic and encourages him to get on the Kidney transplant list. Dennis returned to work in 6 months and dealt with going to his treatment 3 times a week after work. It made for some long days. However, he was happy to still be able to enjoy some of his days off while getting back to enjoying some of the passions he has with going to Concert and Sporting Events.

He was accepting his new normal until another major health setback happen in November of 2022. He woke up unable to see very little and couldn't perform his job anymore. His employer has been understanding allowing his leave. However, it's been a challenge paying his normal bills with his 50% pay short-term disability. He really wants to return to work, However, it could be several more weeks before it is physically possible. In addition to his normal bills, his medical condition has created some extra medical bills, and needing to pay his own medical insurance out of pocket.

Dennis does appreciate his team of top medical specialists doing everything they can to help. He is open to having a kidney transplant in the future. He has 3 friends that volunteered to donate if they are considered a good match. He has seen several eye specialists and believes he finally found the right one that is sincere to do everything possible to help him get his vision back. If you are able
to financially help. Also, if you could share that would be appreciated. Thanks for reading and supporting Dennis fight to regain an independent life.
