Denisha Brethorst has been my friend for 25 years, and I’ve never known anyone as strong or resilient. Over a year ago, Denisha began experiencing severe abdominal pain. While waiting for insurance approval for the tests her doctor ordered, her pain became unbearable and she was rushed to the ER. In just seven days, she underwent three surgeries and spent a total of 30 days in the hospital. Most of her colon was removed, but unfortunately, her health issues have continued, leaving her unable to work.

This sudden change has put a huge financial strain on Denisha and her partner, Ronnie. Their two-income household was reduced to one, but the bills haven’t stopped. Ronnie has been working as much as possible, but without paid time off, he can’t be with Denisha during her upcoming major surgery in Chicago. The recovery will take months, and no one knows yet if Denisha will be able to return to work or if she’ll face ongoing challenges.

Funds raised will help cover travel expenses for surgery and essential living costs while Denisha recovers. Denisha is one of the most frugal people I know—she and Ronnie never spend unnecessarily.
