I'm reaching out to share a deeply personal story about my mom, Denise, and to ask for your support in her courageous journey towards recovery.

Background

Before her stroke last fall, Denise was a force of nature—unstoppable and independent. She managed her business, supported her family, showered love on her grandchildren, helped neighbors, enjoyed trips, and even found time to rescue stray dogs and kittens. She was one of the few women in her field, selling and servicing yard trucks critical to keeping America's supply chain running.

The Life-Altering Stroke

On October 1, 2022, everything changed. A stroke left Denise paralyzed on her right side, robbing her of the ability to perform daily tasks. Despite immediate care and weeks of hospitalization, her once-busy life came to a standstill. Two days a week of one-hour physical therapy at home barely made a dent in her recovery.

The Turning Point

In March, with the support of family, Denise found hope at the Centre For Neuro Skills in Emeryville, CA. This program became her lifeline, offering extensive physical and cognitive rehabilitation. She relearned to walk, gained strength, and achieved milestones she once thought impossible. Unfortunately, upon turning 65, her insurance no longer covered the program. Undeterred, she secured a scholarship at Rise Neuro Gym in Walnut Creek, continuing her progress until Dec 23, 2023.

Ongoing Challenges

Despite her tremendous strides, Denise faces ongoing challenges. Without the use of her right hand, she struggles with tasks that were once second nature—writing, driving, and managing administrative responsibilities. Her deep desire is to reclaim her independence and resume helping friends, neighbors, and animals.

Financial Needs

Denise has now exhausted all available coverage and scholarships for these intensive and expensive neurological rehab programs. They are the only ones that work. The specific costs include:

Neuro Wellness Rehab: $150 per hour (she aims for 6 hours per week)

Rise Neuro Gym: $850 per month

Paratransit: $13 per round trip
