Support for Denise Carson

I have had the great fortune to share the last 14 years of my life with the award winning journalist and author Denise Carson. Tragically one constant in her life has been cancer.

At 12 she lost her father to colon cancer and at 26 she lost her mother to ovarian cancer. 10 years ago at the first ultrasound for our daughter Kaia, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

The pregnancy turned to be a blessing. As her gynecologist said, “this child may have saved your life.“ The doctors wanted to do immediate surgery because of the aggressive nature of ovarian cancer, but that posed great risk to the baby. Denise chose instead to protect her child. Miraculously, when the baby was born, the cancer had not progressed at all.

Our daughter Kaia is now 10 years old and Denise spends every day being a loving mother for our two daughters.

Unfortunately, now it appears that we are facing another round of health challenges. Some of Denise’s treatments are not covered by insurance and the last ten years of medical costs have made paying for these treatments nearly impossible.

The purpose of this GoFundMe page is to help us pay for the treatments that our Medical Insurance does not provide for.

Her treatment plan will depend on the results from the long list of tests she is undergoing, some of which are painful biopsies. While we wait for a diagnosis, she is benefiting from acupuncture to help manage pain.

Current medical expenses are growing, and we expect a cost of approximately 8 thousand dollars beyond what insurance will cover. This is money we do not have.

A contribution to Denise’s fund will go directly to paying her medical expenses. 100% of it will be dedicated to her treatment. Updates will be available on this page and on request, with details about how the funds are being used.
