Hi everyone,
My name is Denicia Lofton, and I am incredibly honored to share that I have been accepted to medical school. As a first-generation, incoming medical student, I am finally being given the opportunity to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a physician.
This journey represents so much more than a career, it is the realization of years of hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance. Coming from a low-income background, I have always believed that education could change the trajectory of my life and allow me to one day give back to communities like the one that raised me.
While I feel incredibly blessed to have earned this opportunity, I am also facing one of the biggest obstacles of my life: paying for medical school. I am navigating this journey financially on my own, and despite working hard and doing everything I can to prepare, the cost of attendance remains overwhelming.
Recent changes to federal student loan programs under the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" have left many graduate and professional students with fewer federal borrowing options, forcing us to rely more heavily on private student loans. Unfortunately, private lenders have stricter approval standards, making it difficult for many qualified students (especially those from modest financial backgrounds) to secure the funding needed to begin their education.
That is why I am creating this GoFundMe. My goal is to raise enough to help cover my first year of medical school so I can begin this journey without the constant uncertainty of whether I will be able to finance my education.
Every donation, no matter the amount, brings me one step closer to earning my medical degree and one day serving patients as a compassionate physician. If you're unable to contribute financially, sharing my story with others would mean just as much.
Thank you for believing in me, supporting my dream, and helping make this once unimaginable opportunity possible. I hope to one day pay this kindness forward through the care I provide to others.
With gratitude,
Denicia Lofton
