Support Demon's Fight Against Severe Anemia

Donation protected
Update 2/7: My girl has pulled through! We are officially off of our medication and just have to do monthly check in’s as of right now. She is completely back to normal and energetic as ever (the 4am zoomies have resumed in full). I will continue to monitor her and our hope is that we’ve treated it enough to be taken care of, considering we still do not know what the root cause of it was. We appreciate all of you so deeply and are now working very hard to pay off this bill that saved my baby’s life. Thank you for all of your support!

Update 9/10: We had our first vet check up today to recheck our pcv levels and we have gone from 17% to 20%! this is great news for us and hopefully we will continue to progress!! our next check up will be in 2 weeks, Demon is staying on her steroids for the time being and we still patiently await the results of the bone marrow. Thank you all so much for the support!

My sweet little kitty, Demon, was rushed to the urgent vet on wednesday night when i noticed she wasn’t acting like her usual self. After getting her there, we discovered she is extremely anemic and would need to have an emergency blood transfusion.

Demon’s pcv (packed cell volume) is supposed to be resting between 25-45%, when I took her in she was at 6%. The doctor gave me the name of the hospital to take her, to which I showed up and was told they were at capacity and had no blood on site for the transfusion.

After calling about 5 different animal emergency hospitals, we ended up at the Blue Pearl in Sandy Springs. my girl was taken back immediately and I waited for about an hour for the doctor to finish the exams and get back to me.

When the doctor came back, she gave me pretty much the same info from the urgent vet and told me we’d have to do the blood transfusion ASAP. she then presented me the estimate that included the low-point and the high-point costs. I was then told I’m required to pay the mid-point cost up front, which ended up being $7,322.

This was absolutely devastating news for me as they ultimately told me, I either pay the money or they don’t save my cat. As a 21 year old woman in today’s economy, I did not have that kind of money up front. Fortunately, I was able to open a credit card through the hospital to put the money down that night.

After a long 3 days of Demon in the hospital and me staying home waiting and waiting on whatever news the doctor would call me with, I have finally brought her home. She’s now had a blood transfusion, multiple bloodwork tests, and a bone marrow extraction. The goal now is to figure out what’s causing her anemia or else we will be starting again from square one.

As of right now, Demon’s pcv is resting at 16% (so still not even lowest percentile), and she is on steroids and pain relievers. The bone marrow results won’t come in for another 2 weeks and in the meantime, we will need to go to the vet every 3-5 days to recheck that her pcv levels aren’t declining.

We still have a long road ahead of us and despite all else, I am beyond grateful for my friends and family who continuously show their support, and most importantly to God for saving my baby.

I am so humble in asking for any sort of help in this situation and truly I would only ever do so for my cat. My sweet 6lb, flat headed, crazy Demon. There was never any choice about spending that money or not saving her life.

I love and appreciate you all and will continue to give updates. Thank you.
