Support Demi's Journey to Recovery

“A couple of days before Devens graduation, Demi suffered migraines then started having seizures on Memorial Day. With 3 failed spinal taps and switching medication due to side effects, we opted to get a second opinion. We flew out to the Philippines requesting further testing and were told that she wasn’t on the right meds and switched again. Her MRI and recently received lab results show lesions in her brain that affect her motor skills. The girls and I will be flying to California to do further testing while also hoping to start the right treatments that she needs to recover. She cries every day, struggling with daily tasks and speech, saying she just wants to be back to her usual self. Please keep her in your prayers. Thank you for everyone’s prayers and concerns”. -Leanne

My name is Danica, Demi’s Aunt and Leanne’s younger sister. Demi is 9 years old, a tough Jiu Jitsu competitor, the best sister, & mommies helper. Shes daddy’s little girl, a sweet independent, fun, responsible young lady who is also Mila & grandmas best friend. In a blink of an eye with no explanation our sweet girl has lost many skills and characteristics that she use to have due to what we know now- lesions in her brain. She continues to have seizures, changes with her emotional behavior, trouble with her coordination/gross motor skills, & a delay in speech causing her to get frustrated. This makes it difficult for her to complete simple tasks. She’s often tired and is unable to enjoy the things that she use to. Photosensitivity leads to tired eyes and unbearable migraines.

The family is very grateful for the love and support they’ve been receiving as it has given them more hope and faith during this trying time. It has been a quiet battle these past 2 months fighting for Demi’s recovery and they still have a long road ahead. Many of you have reached out to the family asking how they can contribute to Demi’s recovery. If you know the Baisas, you know that they are the most hardworking, generous, selfless people you’ll ever meet. They’ve helped many families during the most difficult times of their lives without hesitation or return. Right now they’re facing unexpected medical expenses in Guam, the Philippines, and soon to be California for procedures that insurance is unable to cover. Leanne & Dannie are business owners and parents of 4 kids. A recent high school graduate and 3 little ones preparing for the upcoming school year in August. The family is having to sacrifice and separate to maintain their business on Guam while they find an exact diagnosis and right medical treatment for Demi. The effects of her condition are devastating to the family, however, we have high hopes that with the right diagnosis, treatment, and therapy, she can recover.

Although prayers are all they ask for, we are hoping that we can help ease the financial burden and resultant stress that the family is facing through this journey.

Thank you all in advance. I will be sharing Demi’s journey here ❤️
