What would you do if you were defined, forever, by the worst thing you have ever done and there was nothing you could do to change it?
This is the harsh reality that greets thousands of individuals upon their release from prisons and jails each year. Unfortunately, our system makes this transition virtually impossible.
We are Demi and Al and we want to share our story with you in the hopes to not only educate and create awareness about this subject, but to change the very systems responsible for the difficulty incarcerated individuals face, not only in prison, but also, upon reentering society. Al was personally one of those people.
Our story's mission is to shed light on the often-undiscussed topic of incarceration. More importantly, to show people that we cannot define someone by something they have done in their past; to teach young men and women how one split decision can change the entire trajectory of your life, and ending with a unique and powerful love story despite the odds stacked against us.
Dr. Moore brings a unique perspective to the world of reentry, combining her lived experience as a retired State Trooper, her researcher expertise, and her front-row steps of walking the reentry journey alongside her fiancé Albert L. Pernsley III, who is formerly incarcerated after serving 10.5 years inside the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
She now educates on reentry after incarceration to promote awareness and advocate for public perception and policy changes by combining lived experiences and research.
Albert L. Pernsley, III, is a formerly incarcerated entrepreneur. Albert has succeeded and excelled no matter what life has thrown his way. However, at age 21, an unfortunate situation occurred where Albert’s life was in danger. Defending himself to survive, Albert was convicted of third-degree murder and sentenced to 8.5 to 20 years. Albert knew he would not become just another statistic of the criminal justice system. Albert thrived behind those prison walls in ways you would not even imagine. For the next 10.5 years, Albert lost over 105 pounds, developed a passion for fitness, and built his dream of Crown Me Fit.
Crown Me Fit is about realizing we do not have limits. Limits are influences from the outside from people who do not believe in themselves. In 2019, Albert was released from prison and hit the ground running. Albert is an entrepreneur at heart, and in 2021, he opened and is now the sole owner of his brand and gym, Crown Me Fit, LLC.
Our goal is to make a feature length Documentary for Netflix to tackle this subject on a global scale and reach as many people as possible.
