Support Delmar Nowlin's Fight Against Cancer

Delmar Nowlin was born on July 25, 1962, and raised in Bright, Indiana, where he currently resides with his wife, Melinda. He graduated from East Central High School in May 1980 and married Melinda on August 23, 1986. Together, they have one daughter, Tiffany.

On August 23, 2024, Delmar was diagnosed with stage 2 pancreatic cancer—an ironic and heartbreaking anniversary gift. Before this, he had been misdiagnosed with diabetes and treated for it for about six months due to concerns about his significant weight loss. Since receiving the correct diagnosis, Delmar has undergone chemotherapy, which has left him unable to continue his multiple manual labor jobs.

The cancerous tumor shrunk from 3 cm to just 1 mm, leading to an extensive surgery that removed his spleen, two-thirds of his pancreas, and the tumor itself. Although Delmar will need to continue chemotherapy, he must first regain weight. Standing 6 feet tall, he has always been slim yet healthy, but now he weighs around 128 pounds and struggles to eat due to the effects of cancer and surgery.

Delmar has been a hardworking man since the age of fifteen, starting on his Uncle Roy and Aunt Helen Lutz’s farm—a place he still helps maintain today. For nearly 30 years, he has worked alongside his family at the Lutz Auction Center. Employed by Solvay since 1983, Delmar previously worked for Cincinnati Incorporated. He also dedicated over twelve years to the Harrison EMT & Fire Department and approximately two years to the Bright Fire Department. Additionally, Delmar has volunteered at the Bright parade for over 20 years.

If you know Delmar, you know he is a loyal friend for life. He never meets a stranger—he has a remarkable ability to connect with people, no matter where he goes. Always willing to help others—whether building a structure, mowing a lawn, towing a vehicle, or shoveling snow—Delmar has given so much to his community. Now, he needs your help.

His employer only offers short-term disability, not long-term. Medical bills, medications, transportation, and other expenses are piling up, even with health insurance. As the primary income earner, Delmar has always supported his family, especially given his wife’s lifelong disability.
