Delilah is our 12-year-old girl and a deeply loved part of our life.

The first sign something was wrong was vomiting. In the past, she has eaten things like grass that caused her to throw up, but she always recovered quickly, so at first, it didn’t seem unusual.

This time, however, things didn’t improve. She continued vomiting through the night. By the next day, she still wouldn’t eat or drink and was unable to go potty. She was trying to get comfortable but was clearly in distress, and it became clear she was getting worse instead of better.

As the day went on, she became weaker and could hardly hold herself up. She later developed bloody diarrhea, and at that point, we knew she needed emergency care immediately.

At the vet, we learned her glucose was dangerously low, and she was severely dehydrated. She is now being treated for a serious intestinal issue caused by gravel and needs ongoing care to recover.

As pet parents, it’s never easy knowing when to seek emergency help, especially when financial cost is part of the reality. Because she has bounced back from similar situations before, we monitored her closely at first, but acted as soon as it became clear she was not improving and was declining quickly.

We’re doing everything we can to help her heal, but the costs of emergency care are quickly adding up.
