Hi everyone,

My name is Dejah and I live with my mom, Janice, in Haleiwa. We have been severely affected by the recent flood. I never thought I would be creating a GoFundMe page, but my mom and I are in a desperate situation.

Our town was hit by a massive flood that surpassed all expectations. As everyone knows, there were no WARNINGS! I had to be woken up by neighbors around 1:30 AM with a raging river already rising past half of my steps to my house. There was no way out. 911 had told us they were on the way. As hours passed and multiple phone calls, no one was coming. They told us to stay put and we were okay, even after we told them our roof was inaccessible. We were absolutely terrified. I was watching my mom, who already has health issues, go through this traumatic experience, fearing that the stress would trigger a heart attack.

Both of our cars were completely submerged, leaving us with no transportation to work or school. Days without electricity left us with no food. When it got worse, we used furniture to find a way to higher ground. Although it was not a success, they are now all ruined.

We are safe, but we are absolutely devastated and overwhelmed. We are trying to figure out how to navigate this, secure a safe place for us, and rebuild our lives after the flood.
