In the early morning hours of April 7, my mom, Dee Dee Mares, experienced a devastating fire at her beloved home. Thankfully, she, her partner Dave Peters, and their two cats, Xena and Bailey, made it out safely—thanks to the smoke alarms that woke them in time. We’re beyond grateful that everyone is okay.

Many of you know how much this home has meant to my mom. It was her dream to build a life in the country—a dream she brought to life in 1998. Since then, she’s lovingly shaped her home with her signature DIY spirit. It has been her sanctuary, her creative hub, and the foundation of her livelihood.

The damage is substantial. The entire roof must be replaced and second floor stripped to the framing. Significant sections of the first and basement floor also need to be rebuilt. While insurance will help cover the repairs, the process of organizing, coordinating, and rebuilding is overwhelming. During this time, my mom won’t be able to fully operate her business. This means a significant loss of income, right when she needs support the most.

Our goal is to raise $5,000 by May 1, 2025, to help cover lost income and relieve financial pressure while she focuses on rebuilding her home and life.
