Just before Christmas, our family received the news that our mom, Deb, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. It has been a challenging few months of navigating the healthcare system and managing the immediate needs that come with such a significant diagnosis.
The Medical Path
Since her diagnosis, Deb has undergone several major procedures, including a colon resection and the removal of a portion of her liver. Her recovery has involved a 2 week stay in Spencer following her initial surgery, and has involved two hospitalizations in Sioux Falls to address complications with her bile ducts, which required specialized care to manage.
While these complications have been a setback, they have also given us a clearer picture of the support she will need moving forward. To ensure she has the consistent assistance required for her recovery, Deb has moved into Paige’s home.
The Road Ahead
Next week, Deb is scheduled to begin six months of chemotherapy. This next phase of treatment is a significant undertaking, and our priority is ensuring that she can attend every appointment and have a stable, supportive environment while she manages the side effects of treatment.
How You Can Assist
The costs associated with Stage 4 cancer are extensive and often unexpected. We are reaching out to our friends, family, and community to help ease the financial strain on Deb and our family during this time.
Your donations will go directly toward:
Medical Expenses: Covering the remaining balances from her surgeries, hospital stays in Sioux Falls, and the upcoming six months of chemotherapy.
Transportation & Logistics: Fuel and travel costs for frequent trips to see her specialists and oncology team.
Home Care Needs: Providing the
necessary medical supplies and equipment to ensure her comfort and safety while she stays with Paige.
We are incredibly grateful for the support we have already received. Whether it is through a donation, sharing this page, or simply keeping Deb in your thoughts, your help is deeply appreciated as we focus on her health and well-being.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
