Debi Mitchell’s Fight with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer

Donation protected
Update: Today, November 14th, Debi Mitchell passed away comfortably surrounded by family at the Mayo Clinic. She was readmitted over the weekend, placed in hospice due to the progression of her cancer, and passed shortly thereafter.

We ask for your respect and privacy at this time to allow the Mitchell’s time to process this great loss to their family. The proceeds of this account will be allocated between medical bills, a celebration of life for Debi, and helping support the Mitchell’s transition during this heartbreaking time, as Debi’s husband is still fighting his own battle with cancer.

Debi, we love you. You were one of the strongest, sweetest, most amazing women I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. You will be incredibly missed.

Thank you for your continued shares and donations.

Yesterday October 28th, our best friend Summer let us know that her mom, Debi Mitchell, was going to the emergency room with complaints of rib pain and lethargy, something that seemed so small, something her kids had to talk her into even getting checked because she is the last person to complain or ask for help. Just hours later, our world changed forever.

Debi has been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that has already spread to her liver, bone and colon. This is a woman who never complains, who leads a healthier lifestyle than most people our age, who is the glue for their entire family. Summer’s dad has been battling Thyroid Cancer for 22 years, nearly lost his life to it, and Debi has been his caretaker and support through it all. This added diagnosis to their family’s rock, Summer’s best friend, her mom, is heart breaking beyond words.

Upon getting the news, Summer immediately left Tampa to go home to Jacksonville to be at the hospital with family. We are now waiting to find out what other tests are needed along with what the options are.

This diagnosis has turned their family’s world upside down. Debi is in the battle of her life, physically, mentally, emotionally and financially. Their family was already struggling with the bills for her dad and never asked for a dime. Summer helped in any way she could but with this now added financial burden, this is going to take a village to keep the Mitchell’s afloat. With Debi now having to shift her focus to her own health battle, the responsibility will fall on Summer and her brother to step in for the care of their dad and their home.

If you know Summer, you know she is stubborn and private and would never set this up on her own or ask for anything, but we know she needs help that we can’t fully provide.

The medical bills are already piling up in just 24 hours of being in the hospital. As 2 nurses, one of which who has worked at and received care at the Mayo Clinic where Debi is currently admitted, we know just how costly medical bills can become and especially with the care that will be needed at this stage of diagnosis. This won’t be an overnight solution for their family, who are already neck deep in medical bills. Every donation, share, and prayer will go directly to helping their family during this fight. Your support will remind the Mitchell family that they are not alone—that an entire community stands behind them during this incredibly difficult time.

Our thoughts, prayers, and love are with the Mitchell family. Thank you for sharing and donating.
