Join me in supporting Debbie Specchio and her family during her difficult battle with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma. My mom has been battling melanoma on her skin for over 2 years now. Most people she interacts with would never know. She kept her cancer private as she never wanted to be a topic of conversation or the center of attention.
My mom has been an active member of the Keyport First Aid Auxiliary for almost 20 years. She has been a staple at Bingo on Thursday night at the Keyport First Aid since Bingo started there. She always loved to help others and be a part of a great group of people that do amazing work. She would be the first to volunteer to help for any event, at any time, in whatever capacity she was needed (except if they needed her while it was Bingo time). She thoroughly enjoyed socializing with the community members and playing her part in the Keyport First Aid Auxiliary team.
For the past few years, my mom has worked at the convenience store in Keyport next to the bagel shop. She helped to grow a loyal customer base that would come in to see her and share a smile, share a laugh, and enjoy the company. She loved going to work because she enjoyed being social and talking to everyone.
However, my mom's greatest source of happiness has been her family. Married 33 years to her husband Phil Specchio, son Phillip, daughter-in-law Lisa, and grandchildren Hailie and Marshall. My mom has always been the most kind and giving person I know. She would give a stranger the clothes off her back or her last dollar. She would do anything for her family and her community.
Sadly, my mom's cancer has spread to her brain. The brain cancer has taken her ability to effectively communicate, caused balance problems, and personality changes. Due to the aggressive nature of her brain cancer, numerous tumors throughout her brain, my mom has been taken home on hospice to help keep her comfortable during the end stages of the cancer. Finding the cancer has spread to her brain was unexpected, and the onset of symptoms and progression of cancer happened very fast two weeks ago. This unexpected rapid progression has taken all of us by surprise with the inability to plan for this financial hardship.
Due to my mother's current condition, she is unable to work. My father is out of work to stay home and care for her. I am asking for your help to alleviate some of the rising expenses of her medical care and living expenses.
