Support Debbie Sakonyi's Fight Against MS

On 3N ICU at Upstate Community Hospital, you may have noticed that the bubbly, loving, caring, hardworking, Debbie Sakonyi, has not been around recently, and this is unfortunately due to some devastating news that she has been diagnosed with MS. The last few months have been almost unbearable for her with her severe symptoms causing her to be often completely bed-bound with pain, blurry vision, and weakness.

It all started October 17th with an EKG at her doctor's office causing a 911 call and a trip to the ER where she was admitted for over a week after a cardiac event. Then being discharged home, she had no energy and could barely get out of her bed. Unfortunately, day after day it only got worse. On November 15, she started feeling eye pain, loss of vision, and numbness on her left side. She waited for it to go away, but then her legs started to spasm and her arms and hands started feeling contracted. She, of course, rushed to the ER and received a stroke workup as well as an MRI and spinal tap. She was told that she had multiple lesions on her brain and spine and was diagnosed with MS. Of course, this has changed her life forever, and since this time she has had multiple hospital admissions and is still on steroids. To this day, she continues to struggle with severe pain in her legs (often feeling like she is walking on needles), eye pressure and blurry vision, as well as her legs feeling extremely weak. She cannot drive and is still a long way from being able to return to work. Unfortunately, the bills keep coming and life keeps going on. As those of you know who have had the privilege of meeting Debbie, she is very strong and will make it back!
