My name is Michaeleah Yarger, and I’m making this GoFundMe for my mother, Debbie Hurst.
On Saturday, December 7th, my mom had a freak accident and dropped a crockpot lid on her head while she was storing it away in a high cabinet above her head. She had a headache but continued her day, assuming she was okay. On Sunday, December 9th, when she woke up, she had two black eyes and a horrific headache. She ended up going to the emergency room where they did a CT scan and a few other tests and ruled out brain bleeds, etc., and said that she had a concussion. I took her to the concussion clinic the next day where they assessed her and agreed she had a concussion and needed to be off work and rest for at least a week.
She started to feel better, but come Thursday, her health started to decline again. She was having more migraines, a lot of dizziness, and lightheadedness but decided to see what happens because without medical insurance, she didn’t want to have more medical fees on top of the ones she already had from the first emergency room trip. By Friday, December 13th, the lightheadedness and migraines would not subside, and she felt so weak and knew something was wrong, so she decided to make another trip to the emergency room where they admitted her because of a heart rate of 36. They called a rapid response team and put a defibrillator on her chest because her heart rate was so low they thought they would have to bring her back to life. By the grace of God, her heart rate stabilized, and her life was saved; however, she had a long road ahead.
They told us that the blood pressure medications she was on both caused a low heart rate and that she needed to be off of both of them immediately. So once they stopped them, it wasn’t long before her blood pressure was over 240. Since she was admitted on Friday, they did not run many tests because a lot of staff was gone over the weekend, and they spent time trying to find the right blood pressure medication for her. After many changes and a ton of ups and downs, we finally found a medicine that is so far working.
On Monday, the doctors started doing tests and learned that her kidney stents had failed and she needed surgery. She had gotten a lot of fluid on her heart and lungs from the medications and stress her body had been under. They started medicine to help the fluid build-up, but her kidneys weren’t working to push the fluid out the right way. So she was put on oxygen to help her breathe. Today she had the surgery; they unclogged her arteries and placed new stents. She’s still in the hospital and will be here at least another few days as long as nothing else comes up.
My mom lives alone, and her income is her only income. She’s a nurse who works a lot of hours to support herself, and going from 100% independent to not being able to walk or even breathe on her own has been very hard on her. My mom hasn’t asked for help, ever, and never would; she has always cared for everyone else. If we raise any money, it will be used to help cover bills from the last few weeks she has been unable to work and help with medical costs. At this point, she has had two emergency room visits, along with a six-day stay (so far), a surgery, and tons of different medications. My mom needs to rest and recover and not worry about the amount of bills she is receiving. Please keep her in your prayers and pray that she recovers quickly and thoroughly, mentally and physically, from this and that she gets back into some form of normalcy soon. Merry Christmas to each one of you, and thank you for reading her story. ❤️
TO UPDATE ;
my mom was released from the hospital Christmas Day 2 days later I took her back into the emergency room for severe pain to find out that she had appendicitis and her appendix ruptured, she was then given ANOTHER SURGERY , to get her appendix out and place a drain for infection because she was septic. When she went back to get her drain taken out a week later she told the doctor that her pain was still lingering and they decided to do another catscan, they found out that she still had too much infection so they did a procedure where they used long needles to stick into her skin and remove the infection pockets yesterday. We’re hoping that this is it, she’s wore out, she’s been through a ton, she’s tired. Shes been off of work for over a month and will still need to be off atleast another 2-3 weeks. Her bills continue, please if you can help her.
