Support Dean's fight against Cancer.

Dean is a father, husband, son, brother, cousin, friend, colleague and the life of the party. He is strong and resilient, doesn't smoke and looks after his health. He will spend weekends going fishing, hiking mountains or taking his family and their dogs to the beach. He is the kind of guy who would take the shirt off his back or give you his last dollar so you wouldn’t go hungry. In fact - when I mentioned setting up this Go Fund Me for Dean, he responded with "there are just so many people worse off than me".

Dean and his family moved to Trinity Beach, Cairns in March 2020 to start a new life. They had plans to buy a house to raise their girls in but have since been hit with this.

Dean recently turned 31 and was working with Regis and Cairns Private Hospital as an allied health / rehabilitation assistant. He is passionate about helping others live a good quality of life, and enjoys celebrating the little milestones in each of his patient's lives.

Late August 2021, Dean was given the devastating and heart-breaking news that he has cancer.

Specifically a rare and extremely aggressive form of lymphoma known as Burkitt's Lymphoma.

Trying to stay positive through his initial diagnosis, whilst attempting to wrap his head around what this all meant, he was hit with more bad news, one after another.

Here's a short reflection from Dean himself after spending the last month trying to take his diagnosis that will forever change his life. He posted this on social media to share with his friends as he knew what he was about to endure would require the support from everyone who cared about him .

"August 17th 2021 - I present to Cairns E.D with severe stomach cramps.
Few hours later and a couple urgent scans I get told something you never want to hear a DR say.
"You have a 6cm tumour growing in your bowel, suspected bowel cancer" ...
Three days later, I go for surgery to remove almost 30cm of bowel, the tumour and all the lymph nodes.
Fast forward 2 weeks after some pretty intense recovery, while I'm getting 32 staples pulled out, I get more bad news, bone biopsy results returned.
We get the formal diagnosis of Lymphoma, NHL DLBCL sub Burkitts, which has now spread to other parts of the abdomen, liver, chest, lung and neck".

Dean has an army behind him. We have started this Go Fund Me page to raise money to support him, his wife, and kids through this unimaginable time, help to pay Deans medical bills, living costs and help relieve any extra stress as Dean will be unable to work for at least the next four months whilst undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

Due to his weakened immune system Dean has been told that he is restricted to only one hospital visitor over the next four months which must be the same one person.
This means that Dean will not be able to see his two daughters Harper (9) and Charlee (7).

We would also like this Go Fund Me to also support his daughters and wife Lakkari, to ensure that his young girls don't miss out on fun activities over the school holidays and weekends and to help Kari take time off work should she need to if Dean's condition takes a turn for the worse.

Any amount will help the Bewick family no matter how big or small.

Any remaining funds may be spent on Dean's wishes to travel around QLD in a van when he is in remission.

We love you Dean, you've got this this!
