It all started with a broken rib. Earlier this summer, Dean broke a rib. The pain was greater than one would expect with this type of fracture, and he was not healing as he should. Further testing revealed that Dean has a type of cancer called Multiple Myeloma, which is a type of blood cancer that originates in plasma cells found in bone marrow.

Dean began experiencing pain in other places and now has fractures in 2 ribs and 2 vertebrae resulting from weakened bones caused by this cancer. Additional genetic testing revealed that Dean’s cancer is very aggressive and he is undergoing therapeutic radiation treatments to manage his pain and chemotherapy to fight the Multiple Myeloma. He has had a bone marrow biopsy and various x-rays and CT scans, and now has weekly physician visits, lab work, and chemotherapy plus additional treatments needed to manage the various conditions brought on by his cancer. We expect that his cancer treatments will go well into 2026.

Dean founded Western Shores Marketing in 2002 and provides aerospace, machining, computer system, and entertainment consulting services to a number of clients. He is currently unable to operate this business as he undergoes treatment.

He is also a founding member of the five-person acapella group, Bounding Main, and over the last 22 years has shared his talent with the world through live performances, videos, and CD recordings. He has traveled with Bounding Main to appear at events across the Midwestern United States, Canada, and Europe; his last public performance with Bounding Main was in July.

As Dean is not currently able to work or perform with Bounding Main, we have set up this GoFundMe to help with the expenses related to his care and to try and ensure that he does not experience financial hardships as he focuses on his treatment.
