Support DeAnna's Battle Against Cancer
Donation protected
Hello, both Jeanette Wood and myself, Toni Panter, created this GoFundMe to humbly request your support to our dear friend DeAnna (DeDe) Walsh-Guthrie's ongoing battle with cancer. Her cancer has now spread to her kidney and she is scheduled to have it removed at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.
DeAnna has fought serious medical issues the past 3 years, never asking for help, and doing so while continuing to help others. She's declined offers to fundraise or a GoFundMe on her behalf, insisting there are always others more in need. With this new medical blow, we've informed her we're not giving her a choice lol.
In 2021 she began treatment at U.C. Davis for a tumor discovered in her sinus cavity. While back at home she began losing feeling in her legs. Masses on her vertebrae were cutting off her spinal cord and emergency surgery was preformed the next day. Two more surgeries followed and she now lives with a metal cage in her neck and her spine fused from C2 to T2 and T12 to S1.
While hospitalized labs indicated a problem with her liver and she was diagnosed with non-alcohol related Hepto Cellular Carcinoma. She began chemotherapy and 3 months later with her body brace removed she began physically therapy to relearn to walk.
Months later she fell at home breaking her collar bone, 2 ribs, cracking her scapula and breaking off the tip of her C1 vertebrae. Once again she was back in a full body brace for 3 months. During this time new symptoms arose; after a plethora of test doctors found DeAnna's body no longer had the ability to absorb and retain Vitamin C, D, K1 & B12 leading her into multi-system failure. Both her U.C. Davis and Reno physicians declared her terminal January 2024. At her urging, her records were sent to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona where she was accepted immediately as a patient.
This past April she spent 22 days as an outpatient, undergoing a total of 61 tests and procedures which found her cancer had spread and she was diagnosed with Renal Cancer as well.
DeAnna is headed back to Arizona the week of May 20th as emergent surgery is scheduled for removal of her left kidney. Due to the size and location of the tumor, surgery is considered high risk and she is required to arrive 1 week prior to surgery for specialized testing and mapping. Once released from the hospital she needs to remain in Phoenix for a lengthy period of time for additional follow-up care and radiation.
DeAnna has insurance, however the amount covered is drastically reduced as her care at Mayo is considered out-of-state/network. So many of the expenses included with this life-changing surgery are not covered.
DeAnna is a loving friend, a dedicated mother, retired after 31 years of service as an employee with the State of Nevada and as a member of our community has helped countless families and animals in need; volunteering, donating and fundraising for several organizations and programs.
She recently said to me "When do you say stop so you're able to leave something behind for your child? Do you spend your life savings, draining it to zero for a maybe?" Let's help her not have to do that!
How You Can Help?
Any donation, regardless of the amount is deeply appreciated. All proceeds going directly to pay for her upcoming kidney removal, hospitalization, housing during the weeks of aftercare, transportation, meals, medical supplies and equipment for recovery along with the many future visits she will endure as she continues to fight for her life with grace and her sense of humor. May we ask, donation or not, you share this posts on your page? Together we can help her have the stability and support she needs to get through this difficult and uncertain time.
Thank you in advance for caring for DeAnna as we do ♡
