#Help Deandres Recover

Hi everyone,

I never thought I would be creating a GoFundMe for my son, but I’m reaching out to ask for support for Deandres, my 13-year-old son and my only child.

On August 31st, Deandres was simply making his way home from school when he was caught in the shooting near Lawrence High School. He was a bystander and was not involved in what happened. He was just a 13-year-old on his way home when everything changed.

Deandres was shot in the face and suffered a broken jaw and a serious injury to his internal carotid artery, which caused significant blood loss. Along with the physical injuries, he is also having to deal with the trauma of being shot and the emotional impact of experiencing something so frightening at such a young age.

The Eagle-Tribune reported on the response to the shooting and the work of the local EMTs who treated the 13-year-old victim. Because of the severity of the injury and blood loss, paramedics were able to administer whole blood in the ambulance while rushing him to the hospital. We are incredibly grateful for the quick actions of the EMTs and for every doctor, nurse, and medical professional who cared for Deandres.

Now, our focus is on helping him recover — both physically and emotionally.

Deandres is an active kid who loves sports. He's also just a regular 13-year-old who loves his PS5, riding his e-bike, hanging out, and enjoying being a kid. That's the Deandres I want people to know.

He should be thinking about sports, school, his next PS5 game, or where he's going to ride his e-bike — not dealing with the physical and emotional aftermath of being shot.

He is my only child. He is full of life, and he has so much ahead of him. As his mother, my priority is being there for him and making sure he has the care, support, and time he needs to heal.

There will be ongoing medical appointments, follow-up care, transportation, and other unexpected expenses along the way. I’m asking for help so I can focus on my son during this time without having to worry about how we are going to manage everything financially.

Nunca pensé que tendría que crear un GoFundMe para mi hijo, pero hoy estoy pidiendo su apoyo para Deandres, mi hijo de 13 años y mi único hijo.

El 31 de agosto, Deandres simplemente regresaba a casa después de la escuela cuando quedó atrapado en el tiroteo ocurrido cerca de Lawrence High School. Él fue un espectador y no estaba involucrado en lo que ocurrió. Era simplemente un niño de 13 años que regresaba a casa cuando todo cambió.

Deandres recibió un disparo en el rostro y sufrió una fractura en la mandíbula y una lesión grave en la arteria carótida interna, lo que le provocó una pérdida importante de sangre. Además de las lesiones físicas, también está teniendo que enfrentar el trauma de haber recibido un disparo y el impacto emocional de vivir una experiencia tan aterradora a una edad tan joven.

El Eagle-Tribune informó sobre la respuesta al tiroteo y el trabajo de los paramédicos locales que atendieron a la víctima de 13 años. Debido a la gravedad de la lesión y la pérdida de sangre, los paramédicos pudieron administrarle sangre completa en la ambulancia mientras lo trasladaban de emergencia al hospital. Estamos profundamente agradecidos por la rapidez con la que actuaron los paramédicos y por cada médico, enfermero y profesional médico que cuidó de Deandres.

Ahora, nuestro enfoque está en ayudarlo a recuperarse, tanto física como emocionalmente.

Deandres es un niño activo al que le encantan los deportes. También es simplemente un niño de 13 años al que le encanta jugar en su PS5, montar su bicicleta eléctrica, pasar el rato y disfrutar de ser un niño. Ese es el Deandres que quiero que la gente conozca.

Él debería estar pensando en los deportes, la escuela, cuál será su próximo juego de PS5 o a dónde irá a montar su bicicleta eléctrica, y no en las consecuencias físicas y emocionales de haber recibido un disparo.

Él es mi único hijo. Es un niño lleno de vida y todavía tiene muchísimo por delante. Como su mamá, mi prioridad es estar a su lado y asegurarme de que tenga la atención, el apoyo y el tiempo que necesita para recuperarse.

Habrá citas médicas, cuidados de seguimiento, transporte y otros gastos inesperados durante su recuperación. Estoy pidiendo ayuda para poder concentrarme en mi hijo durante este momento, sin tener que preocuparme por cómo vamos a cubrir todo económicamente.

Si pueden hacer una donación, cualquier cantidad, sin importar lo pequeña que sea, será de gran ayuda. Y si no pueden donar, compartir esta campaña y mantener a Deandres en sus pensamientos significa muchísimo para nosotros.
