Hi everyone, we are Victoria and Chris Tullock.
Some of you may know our daughter Deana Tullock and her boyfriend Kyle were in a horrific car accident on June 10, 2023. They were on their way home when they saw headlights coming straight for them. Kyle quickly cut the wheel to avoid a head on collision. This resulted in their vehicle clipping a parked car and flipping 4 times. Deana went through the windshield, and, by some miracle, Kyle had the strength to pull her back into the car before it flipped and then hit a tree.
Deana sustained serious injuries from the accident: TBI (traumatic brain injury) right frontal scalp hematoma and soft tissue laceration, puncture to the left leg, burns from airbags on face, torso, arms, cuts and bruises from the glass over her entire body and Multiple herniated discs (C4-7). She was diagnosed with cervical spondylotic myelopathy and radiculopathy and damage to the medial nerves in the facet joints. In addition, due to all the trauma and tension, they later found straightening of the cervical lordosis. The TBI, left her with brain fog, memory loss, constant confusion, difficulty concentrating, blurry vision and chronic migraines, together with neck pain and stiffness, loss of range of motion, tingling, weakness and numbness in arms and hands and difficulty with motor skills.
For months now Deana has been going through numerous x-rays, cat scans, MRI’s, nuclear bone scans, as well as back-to-back doctor appointments. Deana has been through 9 procedures, multiple rounds of steroid injections, nerve blocks; cervical epidural, lumbar epidural, thoracic injection medial branch blocks and occipital nerve blocks, none of which helped. Now finally after 11 months of chronic pain and suffering we had a plan.
On May 16, 2024, her Neurosurgeon had to perform an invasive surgery called ACDF (anterior cervical discectomy and fusion) (C5-6). The surgery has left Deana with damage to her vocal cords and esophagus from scar tissue and inflammation.
The procedure has made it difficult for Deana to swallow, eat, drink and even sleep. She chokes on everything, including liquids. Communicating is difficult with no voice. Life has forever changed for this 24-year-old fun loving, free spirited sweet girl. She's scared and in constant pain. Deana now suffers with anxiety, depression and emotional distress on top of the physical consequences of this accident every day. The unknown is scary, we don’t know what her long-term physical limitations will be or if the debilitating pain that affects her ability to do basic activities will subside. She now has a significant lifestyle change. She is not only dealing with all the stress and trauma from the accident, but the $87,000 dollars in medical bills which the insurance company has denied payment. In addition, her loss of income for over a year…
She has a very long road ahead. Once she gets clearance from the doctor, she will have months of physical therapy before it can be determined whether she will be able to return to work.
We as a family have tried to help her in every way we can and have exhausted all savings and emergency funds we had available. We are a very prideful family and asking for outside help is not easy but, as a parent, you do everything you can to help your child.
We appreciate you all thank you xoxo!
