Update-In A Moment-Forecast
Hello my dearest friends,
I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on my current status. On the evening of Saturday October 26th, I stepped off the sidewalk and headed towards my car across the street. My foot became lodged in a pothole which forced me to fall directly onto my forehead where I laid instantly paralyzed. Luckily two bystanders heroically protected me and called for paramedics.
Upon ambulance arrival, I experienced heart failure but was revived before taken to IU healthcare where I had emergency spinal cord surgery.
In a moment, I became a paraplegic.
Meanwhile, I retained full mental cognizance.
Since then, I have moved into Community North and with the skills of the superior staff and therapy I have started on the path to recovery. With the loving support of my brother Rick, niece Allison and Margo Black, the compassionate care of my employer Kahn’s Catering, Ashley Caenepeel, Steven Conners, John Pendergast alongside my lifelong friend Betsy and (Andy) Buchannan-Eibling I am headed to a full recovery.
Forecast
The difficulty of spinal cord injury is the unknown. But, I head into this next step with great optimism for a full recovery.
In the meantime, I appreciate the love and support, your notes and texts and well wishes.
I know tomorrow will be better. I know it will happen with the encouragement of the strong foundation of community that I am surrounded by. What we all know is in a moment everything can change, as it has with me. And more so than ever, I hold onto those most important to me.
