Support DD and His Mom's Fight Against Leukemia

Hello friends.

This is the first time I've done this, but if you'll take the time to read, I think you'll agree that this is a very good cause.

As you probably know, I'm a semi-retired school teacher. I'm working a part-time job in a mailroom of a bank. It was while working this job that I first met DD.

DD is a young man (29) from an island territory of the United States. And he's one of my heroes.

Just before the Pandemic hit, DD had graduated from a university here in Utah with a Bachelors in Art. (He is an exceptionally-talented artist who dreams of working in animation.) While he has some older half-sisters, he was raised as an 'only' child by a mother who was working as a caretaker for an elderly man. DD's mom is Philippine, but because she gave birth to DD on a different island that is a US territory, DD is a US citizen--because of Birthright Citizenship.

Almost the very month DD got his college degree, he received word that his mom (now in her early 60s) had been diagnosed with Leukemia. DD scraped together enough money to get his mom to Salt Lake, where she is being treated at LDS hospital.

DD is a hard worker; all the time I've known him, he's always working two jobs to pay for his mom, keep them afloat, and rent an apartment for the two of them.

He's fallen on some hard times lately, however.

He's still working two jobs, but the funds are no longer stretching far enough. He's already maxed out credit cards and stopgap loans, and has even had to relinquish some of his insurance coverage. And now, to top it all off, he and his mom are in peril of being evicted from their apartment.

He's a resourceful young man with a strong sense of morality. He's also very proud and independent. He would never allow me to set up a GoFundMe, so I'm doing it without his knowledge and using a pseudonym for him. I will personally see that all funds raised will go directly to DD and his mom.

His mom is now in her mid-60s, and is having to undergo three days of chemotherapy every month to stay alive. She was able to become a US citizen last year, and is thrilled to be living here with her only son. She has solicited help from family back in the islands, but the poorer economy there renders monetary contributions all but worthless.

So for now, DD is her only hope.

Would you be able to find a few dollars to help them out?
