Our Derpy Daynish Needs Your Support
Daynish, about 1 year old, is more than just a pup; she's a cherished member of our family. With her wagging tail and joyful spirit, she has brought endless love and happiness into our lives. Daynish has always been there for us, offering comfort and companionship.
She was rescued from the South from a very bad situation.
I met her brother at work after he had been rescued by one of our clients, and completely fell in love with him. I was told that his sister still needed a home. I meet hundreds of dogs a week, but something about him and the story just pulled at my soul.
I couldn’t stop thinking about her. My heart was being pulled towards her, but I didn’t even know how to go about finding her. From there, I started to do some detective work. It was many hours and different paths I went down, but I found her!
When our family met her for the first time, it was love at first sight. We were not sure if she could see us well because her eyes were lazy, but we were so in love. She has the sweetest, most gentle soul. When we took her home, she fit right into the pack with our other dogs and was so happy. Within the first couple of days, we noticed how calm she was, but almost too calm. She ended up having bad pneumonia and was very sick. Luckily, I have a fantastic team of doctors and techs that I work with that helped her through.
After she recovered from that, it was time to see what was going on with her eyes, plus the multiple scars around her head. After multiple appointments and tests, the conclusion was that it was likely due to head/skull trauma leading to depression on the right side of her head. All of this happened before she came to us.
She has been doing pretty well at home with us but still just seemed “off” and slothful. Then one day, we noticed a little bit of a limp that soon turned into her not putting any weight on her back end. We rushed her right over to the hospital. The news wasn’t good, and we were referred to another hospital to see a specialist. That’s where the news got even worse.
The Challenge
Recently, Daynish was diagnosed with severe congenital hip dysplasia with two torn ACLs. The first recommendation was to remove part of her femoral head, a femoral head osteotomy with a possible bilateral hip replacement later on. Now we are being told that bilateral TPLO surgery should be first. Sadly, her pet insurance will not cover the TPLOs. The news has been devastating for us, and we are determined to do everything we can to ensure she gets the treatment she needs. The surgery to fix her knees is critical because we cannot fix the genetic condition affecting her hips until we fix her knees. While we can afford one surgery, the cost of two surgeries is overwhelming and could be impossible for us right now.
The Cost
The estimated cost for her first surgery and post-operative care is $7,500. As much as we want to cover this expense on our own, it’s beyond our financial means to pay for this and her needed hip surgery, which is over $10,000. We are reaching out to our community, friends, and animal lovers for support. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in Daynish’s journey to recovery.
