Friday morning around 3 am I woke up to the most horrifying moment of my life. I woke to the room full of smoke. My first reaction was to jump up and run to the door and open it. As I did the room was full of smoke and I began to scream for Daylan. I had maybe 2 seconds to make a decision and it was either get out or run into the rest of the house. Thank God for hood because he heard curt yelling he had him. Then I jumped out the window and hood followed except he more or less threw himself out the window.
We were all alive when outside two of us completely naked one Injured and two were burnt. Turns out Daylan had woke up to the fire and went right past it to wake curt up. He had other options but chose this route. He saved curts life. Curt had to bust the large window out to get them both to safety. Since I was on the side of the house away from the start of the fire smoke was our biggest issue. We lost everything!
The house is gone and we lost 1 cat, 2 kittens and a rooster. We all love our animals however in return we have our lives. Looking back we all barely missed death. I am the luckiest out of all of us with minor injuries. All superficial except for the smoke inhalation.. Curt has some burns on his back and hands, smoke inhalation and some cuts. Hood has some broken ribs, collarbone, cuts, bruises, fractured wrist and burnt lungs.

Now to my little hero.
Daylan is 11. He chose to get curt up to get him out walking right by the room the fire started at. Daylan has 20% of his body burnt. We are all now at the children's hospital of Virginia at vcu. The men are at the critical care hospital.
Daylan couldn't be air flighted to Richmond because of weather but got here by ambulance. This was the best option with a burn center. He was intubated and out to sleep for the ride. With smoke inhalation it is common for swelling to occur in the throat. He had blisters all over his upper body and was excited to tell me beforehand, "at least I didn't deglove myself". My child damn near did.
He has made so much progress in the last 24 hours. They've removed his breathing tube. His wounds have been cleaned. He has several IVs in his ankles and thigh due to his arms and hands being so burnt. They have him relatively stable but we have a long way til we are out of the woods. We already know they will have to do surgery on his back however it is still up in the air what all needs to be done with his hands. Today he started communicating even with a tube in now that they have removed it he has verbally communicated expressed so many emotions and attitude. He is so freaking sweet and funny. He has literally been the most positive anyone could be in normal circumstances let alone this one. We have lost everything and I know this little boy knows our lives are literally a gift that we are lucky to still have.

I won't lie. I have a long way to go to be where I need to be in all aspects of my life. However this child is my everything and beyond perfect. I'll never understand how I managed to have such a magnificent child. Every nurse and doctor who have seen him have talked about how, sweet, funny, strong and how much of a hero he is and I'll never be more proud than I am than when I look at him. 11 years old and he's proved to me he will do greater things in his life than I ever will. I can't wait to watch but more importantly cuddle my sweet boy without him being in pain.
