Brandon got Dax when he was three months old. He has been by our side through many big life transitions such as moving away from home, first to North Carolina and now to Arizona. He is the best boy, being both a protector and a lover. When we got Peach in the summer of 2022, he became a wonderful big brother. It has truly been such a reward to have a good boy like him for the past almost nine years. At the beginning of this year, he started having health issues. Keeping a long story short, he was diagnosed last month with an oral squamous cell carcinoma. The good news is it has not metastasized (spread to other organs). The bad news is it’s grown substantially to where surgery is not an option. It is also locally aggressive and has been growing in his mouth that it’s pushing upwards toward his nose to the point he’s having difficulty breathing out of his right nostril. Brandon and I have had a tough year, having had to already cover a $6k surgery for our sweet Peach only eight months ago. We’ll be using whatever remaining personal funds we have to make sure he gets the treatment he needs (radiation therapy) but are reaching out to family and friends for a bit of support as we navigate his journey with cancer. We don’t like asking for help, but we are optimistic this treatment will lead to a good prognosis and will give him (and us) more meaningful time together. If you have met Daxter, you know how much of a sweet and smart boy he is. He is our best friend.
