My name is Dawn Jackson. I am a single mother to 2 amazing little girls, ages 9 and 12. I am normally working 2, sometimes 3, jobs at a time and braiding hair when I can to make sure they are taken care of. About a year and a half ago, I noticed a painful lump in my breast. I did not have health insurance at the time, so I went to the Emergency Room on 2 separate occasions. The first time, they said it was mastitis, which women who breastfeed get. The second visit, I was told it was inflammation of my lymph nodes, possibly a mastitis flare-up. This year, I signed up for health insurance. Upon seeing my primary care doctor, he advised it was definitely something more serious. I just recently had my mammogram and 6-month checkup. I went in for the biopsy and 3 days later, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I have options for treatment and I am truly thankful for that. Unfortunately, with all of the appointments and treatment, I am unsure how long I will be out of work, how I will cover my personal bills, and more importantly, my medical costs. I am asking for help to keep me and my daughters above water until I am healed and can return to work. Thank you for any and all help.
