Sunday, May 18th Update:
Dawn has been transferred to a rehab facility in Wausau a few days ago. Has been getting better and working her leg more as the days go. Tentative date of release is 5/28.
Ron is at their home and has in-home therapy coming in to work with him. He is doing good with his therapy.
We want to thank you all for your continued support, prayers and well wishes

Sunday, May 11th Update:
Ron is able to eat food now, they removed his tubes and the wound vac for his spleen. They were able to get him outside today in a wheelchair and also walked with a walker to Dawn’s room.
Dawn got the bandages off her leg and has been moving her leg more and has been able to put more weight on it.
Hoping to know more tomorrow of a rough estimate of when they will be able to leave.
We want to thank you all for your continued support, prayers and well wishes.

Thursday, May 8th Update:
Ron had his hip surgery today. The Dr said it went perfect - he had 2 plates that were out, but his sciatic nerve, which he was worried about, isn’t even bruised. Since they put plates in they don’t want him barring any weight on it for the next 6 weeks (at least).
They want Dawn to try and put more weight on her leg tomorrow, she could at any time but the physical therapist is nervous because of her heart. Her heart rate has been elevated, but today it has been back down in the low 100’s - her oxygen is at 98 when she’s awake, but when she starts to dose off it goes down.
They are thinking they’re going to transfer them to the rehab facility there (Wausau) together, but they aren’t sure when they’ll be able to go since they are still trying to figure some things out.
Dawn could be there for 1-3 weeks (possibly longer) until she can move around good enough to go home.
Ron is still working on “waking up” his bowels. They had to connect tubes to flush out his bowels and he still has the wound vac from when they took out his spleen.
Once Ron is more awake from today’s surgery they are thinking about bring Dawn into his room again so they can visit with each other.
Thank you all for your continued support.

Wednesday, May 7th Update:
Both are doing good, but tired today.
Dawn had surgery on her leg yesterday. She starts PT today (a little at a time).
Ron also had surgery on his leg yesterday and they are planning his hip surgery for Thursday.
They were able to bring Dawn into Ron’s room this evening so they could visit each other for a little while. Both are in good spirits

Monday, May 5th Update:
They are both in good spirits today.
Ron broke his acetabulum (hip) and leg in 2 spots, has a broken rib and got his spleen removed last night. They are waiting to do surgery on his leg, they believe they will do it tomorrow.
Dawn broke her leg(tibia and fibula), and her femur is also broke. Dawn currently has pins in her leg to stabilize it until they can put rods in, hoping for surgery tomorrow.
We want to thank everyone who has already donated and who have sent their prayers/best wishes.

Dear Family, Friends, and Community,
We're coming to you with heavy hearts to ask for your support as our beloved mother (Dawn Parkin (Vernetti)) and stepfather (Ron Parkin) were in a motorcycle accident in Ironwood, Michigan, on Sunday, May 4th.
Both Dawn and Ron were airlifted to Wausau, WI, where Ron is currently undergoing surgery for a ruptured spleen, broken leg and possibly more injuries. Dawn is waiting to undergo surgery for a broken leg, with possibly more injuries. We are not sure of the extent of both of their injuries at this time but will update as we learn more.
While they are both very lucky to only have sustained the injuries they have, these injuries are going to keep them out of work for quite a while. They have children still in the home that they care for and support and bills that will keep coming in.
We are reaching out to our community, family, and friends for support in alleviating some of the financial burdens the family will be going through during this time. The generous donations will go towards medical expenses, bills, children, and travel expenses for the family going to be by their side.
With your support, we can offer them financial relief and help during this difficult journey.
Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and generosity.
With all of our love,
The family of Dawn and Ron Parkin
