Last night our family experienced a devastating and completely unexpected loss.
My brother-in-law, Doug Chmiel, was tragically killed while working in Huntington Woods, Michigan during a severe windstorm. A large tree limb fell and struck Doug in the head, causing a massive brain hemorrhage.
Doug was rushed to the Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital trauma bay, where doctors fought to save his life. Despite their efforts, Doug passed away just a few hours later.
Doug was a veteran who served in the Army National Guard and was a devoted husband and father who worked hard every day to care for his family. Doug was the kind of man who showed up for everyone around him. Doug and Dawn were also active members of Faith Covenant Church in Farmington Hills, where they built deep friendships and a strong community.
Doug leaves behind his beloved wife Dawn and their three children: Penelope (12), Elinor (9), and Griffin (7). He is also survived by his parents Terry and Jacqui Chmiel.
His sudden passing has left Dawn and the kids facing unimaginable grief, along with the sudden loss of Doug’s income. Dawn is now facing the overwhelming task of raising three young children without her husband and partner in life.
We are raising funds to help Dawn and the children with:
• Funeral and burial expenses
• Mortgage and household bills
• Immediate living expenses
• Stability for the children during the months ahead
Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly to supporting Dawn and the kids during this heartbreaking time.
If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping the Chmiel family in your prayers.
Our family is deeply grateful for your love and support.
