On February 4th, I was out with a group that was celebrating one of my friend’s birthdays. As we were on our way to pick up a pizza to finish out the night, the driver of another vehicle got upset with something my friend unknowingly did, and began to aggressively chase us. When we pulled over and got out, what I thought was going to be a yelling match or maybe a fistfight, very quickly turned into my attempted murder. The other guy pulled out a gun and began firing point blank at me. One bullet grazed my body and burned my left hand, but another went through my wrist, shattering my right ulna as I desperately fought to keep the barrel of the gun from pointing at my head. After knowing he had hit me (from blood and bone fragments spraying out all over), he sped away. It happened SO fast; it was over before I even fully grasped what was happening.
I'm so grateful for the support I've already received, but I am humbly asking for more help. I am raising funds to help offset long-term medical expenses, pay off some lingering debts, and help jumpstart my yearlong writing initiative which launches May 12th, 2024. I am also raising money because over the next ~169 days, I will be walking 1,007 miles, one mile for each of the victims of gun violence last year in Milwaukee. 169 of them were homicides. I am committing to donating a 100% match of all funds I receive from this GoFundMe, up to the full $10,000, and a 20% match of any funds raised above that goal, to be donated to charities and nonprofits that are actively combating gun violence/aiding violence victims or bringing direct positive change to the Milwaukee area. This match will be made after I finish my yearlong writing project in May 2025. Change has to start somewhere, and I am asking for your support to help me actively create a difference in Southeastern Wisconsin. Every donation, no matter how big or small, is IMMENSELY appreciated.
So much love to all of you,
David
