Hello. My name is David and I live in Hancock, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. In October, I suffered a devastating fall and as a result broke two vertebrae and two bones in my sternum. Somewhat miraculously (as many doctors have said), I was not paralyzed. After a lot of mistakes and difficulties, I managed to get a referral to the U of M medical center, where I will have surgery in January. I may have to fly to Ann Arbor if I'm not cleared to drive, and pay for a hotel before the surgery. In the meantime, I have been out of work for nearly three months so far, and the bills are piling up. I had put my faith in the hopes that somewhere in all the charities and agencies there would be help, but that hope was misplaced.. there is almost nothing for me (utility assistance).
Even though I feel truly blessed to have escaped utter tragedy, my future is still uncertain. I still have quite a bit of post-op recovery to go through, and this would be hampered by being evicted etc, to put it very mildly. Although this has been a life changing event for me, I am genuinely upbeat about my future.. I just have to make it through these next few months. Anything you can do to help on my road to wellness would be tremendously and forever appreciated. May the new year bring you as many blessings! Thank you. Thank you.
