Support David's Battle Against Stage 4 Cancer

Hello, my name is Jill McCartney. I really appreciate you taking the time to read our story.

At the height of the pandemic, my husband David was diagnosed with colon cancer. Due to all of the restrictions in place and the lack of hospital beds available, he had to wait an additional four months for surgery and the start of treatment. Unfortunately, he had complications from surgery - a pulmonary embolism that resulted in being placed in ICU on life support. Thankfully, he came back from it; however, he would go on to spend the next six months in the hospital, having to relearn how to swallow, feed himself, as well as even being able to sit up, let alone walk. It was very difficult, but he stayed strong and regained use of all of his faculties. This resulted in an additional delay in getting treatment as he was unable to tolerate it in his weakened state. Despite all of this, his scans came back clear, and we thought the worst was behind us. Sadly, we were wrong.

At a follow-up appointment and scans, we were given the horrible news that it was back - it was now considered stage four, with the cancer metastasizing to other major organs, and he was placed on hospice after some emergency room and hospital stays. We were given the news that everyone dreads hearing. We are trying to stay strong, but it’s heartbreaking.

Along with all of the physical and emotional pain, this has completely depleted our finances. Between the reduction of income with him no longer being able to work and my having to take time off from my job to care for him, we are currently behind in all of our bills, including rent and utilities. In addition to the reduction in income, we have had many expenses we have incurred trying to get him the best care possible. If you are able to help in any way, we would really appreciate it.
