UPDATE: David’s amputation went well! Thank you everyone for your support and well wishes, he’s going to stay at UoU for a couple more days to heal up. Hopefully he can make it to Thanksgiving dinner this weekend.
Hi everyone, my name's Selena. I’m a childhood friend of David’s. Thank you for taking the time to read, and for being here for David.
If you know him, you already know the kind of human he is, the kind of person who makes you feel heard, understood, and never judged.
David is one of those rare souls who listens with his whole heart. He has always met people with compassion, even in situations where most people would respond with frustration or anger. He’s kind, steady, and deeply grounded. He loves fiercely, defends the people he cares about, and has a moral compass that never wavers.
A few months ago, David was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, an aggressive and extremely rare form of cancer, especially for someone in their 30s.
Since then, life has completely changed. What began as a lump on his ankle quickly turned into multiple tests, specialists, and ultimately the news that the tumor in his bone will require a below-the-knee amputation.
While he continues monthly chemotherapy and prepares for surgery, David has been doing everything he can to stay strong, especially for his son, who is the center of his world.
But the reality is that this diagnosis has made it extremely difficult for him to continue working. His job is physical, and between chemo, upcoming surgery, recovery, and the uncertainty of when he’ll be able to return to the work, the financial strain is heavy.
We’re creating this GoFundMe to help ease that burden so he can focus on healing instead of worrying about how he will provide for himself and stay present for his son.
Funds will help with:
Time away from work during chemo, amputation surgery, and recovery; medical bills and ongoing treatments; future costs of a prosthetic leg; transportation to appointments;
basic living expenses while he cannot work; and anything needed to help him stay grounded and stable for his son.
Through all of this, David has stayed unbelievably strong.
He’s handling something unimaginable, and he’s doing it with grace, honesty, and so much courage.
If you can give, no matter how small, it truly makes a difference. And if you can’t, sharing this page or keeping him in your prayers means just as much.
Thank you for standing with him,
Thank you for loving him, and thank you for giving him space to fight this cancer with hope.
We believe in his healing. We believe in his future. And we believe he will get through this surrounded by all of us who care.
