My name is Jennifer Braun, and this is my first and only GoFundMe campaign. That is because my heart was completely broken when I heard about what had happened to my friend, David Tweedale. David is a retired Episcopal priest who spent much of his career working as a hospital chaplain. He has devoted his retirement to volunteering at Soapstone Prairie Natural Areal. Since 2019 he has worked more than 10,000 hours as a Volunteer Ranger Assistant. David is 79 years old. He dealt with cancer in 2023, and surgery to repair an abdominal aortic aneurysm this year.
Very recently, David was a victim of internet scammers who frightened and intimidated him. Through threats and bullying that included one in-person encounter, David lost $102,000 to the thieves. While all the proper reports have been filed, the possibility of these people being apprehended is slim to none. And in the meantime, David is without the funds that kept him living independently.
I know, it's A LOT of money. But raising funds to help keep him in his apartment can give us time to work out a long term solution. Christmas is coming, and I thought some people, and I was hoping some church congregations, might show David some love this year and spread this campaign. I hope there are many people who want to respond to this terrible situation, where an elderly man was robbed of resources he needs to live independently. I'm also hoping that Christians across Colorado could spread this link. The exact number depends on who you read, but there are at least 3 million Christians in Colorado. That is more than enough for a GoFundMe miracle for David!
