Help me to deliver and install "Canary" !!
I am in need of funding for transportation and installation expenses to take "Canary" from Asheville up to NYC.
As a means of continuing to spread the word about the on-going efforts to re-build, and re-new Asheville's River Arts District, devastated by Hurricane Helene, I was invited to exhibit a sculpture with the West Harlem Sculpture Park program. This public sculpture program receives extensive news coverage, and Director, Savona Bailey-McClain, is happy to include "Canary" in this year's exhibition, running from May thru October of 2025. "Canary" is slated for installation at the entrance to St. Nicholas Park in Harlem, NYC the last week of April, 2025.
About "Canary":
“Canary” is a sculpture recently created by Asheville Artist, David Sheldon, in the aftermath of the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Helene to the Western North Carolina mountains. A member of the River Arts District in Asheville, Sheldon, along with other artists of the district witnessed the devastating flood of the French Broad River, which wiped out 80% of the River Arts District. Having experienced first-hand the impact of climate change, on such a devastating level, Sheldon’s personal work was directly affected. The abstract shapes and forms of “Canary” interweave and interlock in seemingly random, unpredictable fashion. So, “Canary”, as in a ‘canary in a coal mine’, is a call to awareness and action during the turbulent upheaval of our current times, environmentally with climate change, as well as politically and spiritually. The on-going efforts to rebuild the River Arts District will require a continuing level of awareness and support.
