David Mitchell, my husband, has spent his life making a difference as a professor at George Washington University and as a filmmaker, collaborating with his son Cameron and many others. Recently, David’s life took an unexpected turn when he experienced liver failure while still actively teaching and sharing his award-winning film with audiences. This sudden health crisis has brought overwhelming challenges, especially as David relies on a power wheelchair for mobility and now faces mounting medical and transportation expenses.
David’s care needs are urgent and ongoing. He requires several medical appointments each week, 24-hour home health care, and a range of medical supplies to help him survive while he waits for a lifesaving liver transplant. The screening process is underway, with both David and potential living donors being evaluated. In the meantime, specialized transportation is essential for his mobility and access to care, adding to the financial strain.
Throughout his career, David has been a tireless advocate for others, working to improve disability access in medical settings and at the university. I feel enormous solidarity with everyone who has supported us and others facing similar challenges. Every single donation, no matter the size, will go directly to David’s medical expenses and care. Our greatest hope is that, with your support, David can receive a transplant and return to the classroom—a place where he thrives as a teacher, author, and filmmaker, with several collaborative projects still ahead. We are deeply grateful for your kindness and generosity.
