Support David Maxfield's Fight Against Cancer

Dear friends, family and kind souls
We are writing to you with a heavy heart and a humble request. Our brother David received devastating news: after an incredible 24 years in remission, his osteosarcoma has returned, this time in his lung. It’s a cruel twist of fate that began in November with what seemed like a routine pneumonia diagnosis. A chest X-ray revealed a suspicious shadow—a silent cancer that had crept back into his life without a single warning sign. If not for that chance visit to the doctor, he’d still be unaware, carrying on as the selfless, vibrant man we all know and love. Instead, he’s now facing a battle none of us saw coming.
David’s journey since that moment has been a whirlwind of appointments, tests, and a grueling lung surgery to remove the mass. If you know him, you know he’s the last person to ask for help or let anyone fuss over him. After a lifetime of putting others first, he deserves to feel the embrace of the community he’s lifted up time and time again.
For those who’ve crossed paths with David, you’ll recognize him as the heartbeat of kindness in our lives—the man who’s always there with a smile, a helping hand, or a listening ear. He’s poured his soul into volunteering, whether organizing community events, fixing what’s broken, or simply showing up when someone’s in need. He’s the one who arrives before dawn and stays until the work is done, never asking for a thank-you. Now, it’s our turn to step up for him, to carry him through a fight that’s not just physical but painfully financial.
This relapse has turned his world upside down. Chemotherapy, which he began today (3/18), stripped away his ability to do the “on-the-side jobs,” which helped alleviate the expenses he has and will continue to experience. He is truly the strongest, most determined person we know; he can’t catch a break, and it is so unfair. His medical bills are mounting between treatments, endless specialist appointments, and the everyday costs of life—while he fights with every ounce of his unshakable courage. He shouldn’t have to face this burden alone, not when he’s given so much to so many.
That’s why we’ve launched this GoFundMe—to lift the weight off his shoulders so he can focus on what truly matters: beating cancer once more. Every dollar raised will go directly to covering his medical expenses, keeping his home running, pampering Lucy his 100 year-old dachshund (who has all the medical problems a 100 year-old dachshund can have) and giving him the breathing room he needs to heal. No gift is too small—whether it’s a few dollars, a share of this message, or a whispered prayer, it all weaves into a blanket of love and support for David.
If David has ever touched your life with his generosity, his warmth, or his quiet strength, please consider giving back in any way you can. Together, we can show him he’s not alone in this fight—that the man who’s always been our rock has a whole community standing behind him.
From the depths of our hearts, thank you for being part of David’s corner. Let’s wrap him in the love he’s shared so freely for so long.
