My dad, David (64), and my brother, Jordan (28)’s house has burned to the ground along with his entire neighborhood. The city of Alta Dena is basically gone. On January 8, the Eaton wildfire raged through Alta Dena, destroying whole neighborhoods - the grocery store, the nearby restaurants, even his insurance agent’s office. My dad was finally able to purchase this house at age 57 after moving from apartment to apartment for years.
My dad and brother evacuated with very little - a small duffel each and minimal personal effects. My brother has one pair of shoes, two pairs of shorts, two shirts, and two sweatshirts. They thought they would be able to go home in a few days. There have been fires in the area before, but nothing like this before. Previous firefighting efforts were successful. This time, no one was fighting this fire. No helicopters came - aircraft were grounded due to the extreme winds. No firefighters were available to save homes because many were rerouted to the wealthier areas, and those that remained had to focus on gas stations and hospitals.
David and Jordan have basically nothing. They need to eventually move into an apartment and rebuild, while still having to pay for a mortgage for a house that no longer exists. They need help right now to replace their personal effects, and to be able to even start to recover from this massive loss. My dad and my brother have literally lost everything. Anything helps and everything is deeply appreciated. Thank you so much.
