Beloved family & friends,

While flying overseas this summer, our daughter had her first experience with motion sickness. On the way to the bathroom I grabbed the airline’s courtesy airsickness bag. In red letters it said,

“For turbulent heights and gentle hearts.”

A beautiful way to describe a less than glamorous time.

I didn’t know it then but those words would serve as a warning to the even greater challenge that our family was flying into that evening.

A couple days into our trip we took a nose-dive from our height of vacation bliss into the depths of sadness. David was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP). Nothing can prepare the heart for that news.

This summer has been a shadowed, dry valley but like any desert there has been a subtle, quiet beauty. Answers to prayers we’ve prayed have been received in this unexpected place.

While our vision feels blurred in many areas, our eyes are clearly focused on Jesus. Out of my heart, a Living Water is flowing. (John 7:38) And the tide is shifting.

We have found a wonderful center in Clearwater, FL called Lifeworks Wellness. In addition to chemotherapy, David will receive many other therapies under the care of Dr. Minkoff. Our family has relocated to Clearwater for a time while David receives his treatments.

Life is beautiful my friends, even in pain. Gentle hearts, no matter what you are facing, may feel counterproductive in these turbulent times but that is what is required.
