Support Dave's Recovery from Studio Fire
Donation protected
Early in the morning on September 7th the upper level of the Victorian Photography Studio in Gettysburg caught fire while Dave slept in the lower level. A good Samaritan saw that the building was burning and called the local fire department. Meanwhile, Dave was woken up by the smoke detector and was able to get out of the building as the fire department arrived.
There is immense gratitude for Dave's safety, and grief around the damage and destruction the fire has caused to the photo studio. Equipment, props, many years of period pieces of clothing, all some degree of destroyed or smoke damaged. VPS, because of Dave's passion for history and attention to detail, has become a staple of the Gettysburg community and a destination for those who want to travel back in time and walk away with a piece of history. It is a devastating loss.
Not only is this a massive loss to the photo and historical communities, but also a stressful financial situation for Dave and his family. As they decide next steps, there is income loss in not being able to operate the studio, as well as loss of equipment and materials used for traveling and on site shoots. There is insurance, and optimism on what that can cover, but gaps exist in the meantime.
Dave has been a friend and helper to so many over the years; his passion for his craft pales in comparison to what he would do for a friend in need. I am asking, as a friend and peer of Dave's, for support from his community as he and his family navigate this disaster. Any little bit helps!
