We are deeply saddened to inform you that our beloved uncle, Dave, passed away on November 7, 2023, after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. His journey was marked by the rapid and aggressive growth of the cancer, which severely impacted his ability to breathe, swallow, and think clearly.
Dave's battle began innocently enough when he developed a persistent cough in the middle of August. Despite multiple visits to medical professionals, it was initially dismissed as a common ailment. However, his condition continued to worsen, and he experienced a concerning lump on his neck.
On October 24th, a CT scan revealed the devastating truth – Dave had multiple tumors, including two on his thyroid, one on his kidney, a mass on his neck, and a substantial mass in his right lung. This aggressive spread left us in shock, with countless questions and uncertainty about the path ahead. It also led to the accumulation of fluid in his lung, causing severe breathing difficulties.
In an urgent turn of events, on October 28, Dave's oxygen levels dropped significantly, and he was rushed to the hospital. His oxygen saturation consistently registered at 84-86, well below the safe threshold for discharge. After transferring him to Saint Marks Hospital, where he received treatment, the doctors suspected that this may be stage 4 kidney cancer that had metastasized to his lungs and neck.
During this challenging time, his family also faced other medical crises, including a recent autism diagnosis for Dave's daughter and a severe leg injury for his son that required immediate surgery and a lengthy recovery. The mounting medical expenses put a tremendous burden on our family.
Dave fought with unwavering strength and determination, and we rallied together to provide the support he needed. However, the financial implications of hospital stays and treatment were overwhelming.
We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support and generosity from our extended family and friends. Your donations made a significant difference in Dave's battle against kidney cancer. Every contribution, no matter how small, counted. Dave and Robyn deeply appreciated your kindness, support, and prayers as we faced this challenging chapter in our lives.
While we mourn the loss of our beloved uncle, we remain committed to honoring his memory and continuing to support his family. Your donations will help alleviate the financial strain that has befallen our family and provide ongoing support to his wife, Robyn, and their children.
Thank you for standing with us as we remember Dave and continue to support his family during this difficult time. Your love and generosity mean the world to us as we navigate the path of healing and recovery without him.
