Support Dave's Heart Transplant Journey

Dave is in advanced heart failure. He has been rallying for months with many visits to the ED because he couldn't breathe due to so much fluid and pressure on his heart. Two weeks ago, he went to Indy for a cath to look at his heart, and the advanced heart care doctors at Methodist admitted him straight into the ICU to reduce the fluid. They told us that he needed a heart transplant, but he cannot wait that long, so they have decided to put him through testing to see if he can receive an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assisted Device). This device will pump blood to his heart until he can get a transplant. People live with them for many years and are able to return to work and do most of the normal everyday living things we do. Sometimes there are complications, but we are being positive. This surgery is long and the recovery could be up to a month in the hospital. Dave has already been in the hospital for two weeks and won't return home until after the surgery. The surgery at this time isn't scheduled as they are still running tests to make sure his body can take it, and we know he will need a surgery most likely this week either stents or a coronary bypass to unclog an artery. Dave has applied for disability through his job, which he hopes to return to. Some of you know Dave, but those who are reading this and don't, he has the biggest heart, he loves baking for people or helping if he can. It makes no sense that somebody with a heart so big can have a heart that is failing and that somebody who is always willing to help, can't help. Besides the regular household bills, there will, even with insurance, be a lot of medical bills. There will be times he will need a lot of help (please volunteer if you can) to drive up to his doctors in Indy. There will be times we will have to hire a driver as he will need to be in Indy 2 times a week the first couple months after the surgery.

I am his best friend and am asking the tribe to do whatever you can. Everything adds up when we help each other together. Please keep Dave and his family in your thoughts and send all the good vibes his way. Send him a message through messenger or if you're in Indy, pop by for a visit. He is at Methodist hospital in the advanced heart care unit. He has a great team up there. I will keep updating as we find out more information. Right now, everything is day by day.

Thank You in advance for whatever you can do. Much love.
