Support Dave & Steve During these Difficult Times
Donation protected
It's hard to believe this picture was taken less than 2 months ago, in September of this year, when Dave and Steve were on vacation in Germany. They had no idea how drastic life would change for them, once they returned home.
While on their trip, Dave was having vision issues. He had this checked out after returning
home. After many tests and visits to different doctors, Dave was diagnosed with a glioblastoma tumor, which is a very rare form of cancer (less than 20,000 people in the US are diagnosed with this yearly). There is no known cure and the prognosis for this type of cancer is not good at all.
Dave was undergoing radiation therapy and chemo, and it was not helping, but making things worse. Now, he is receiving in home hospice care. There is nothing more the doctors can do. :( It is important to keep Dave comfortable. He is not in pain, but he is very uncomfortable and anxious, as you can imagine. He needs to take medicine every 3 hours for this to be controlled. It's hard to make sure this is consistent at night.
Dave cannot see. His speech is very limited. He cannot walk and has tried and fallen, hurting himself. We went to visit him yesterday, and we were so sad to see our camping buddy in this way. He responded to my questions with nods. So, Dave can still hear. But, this once vibrant man is not the same.
Steve is doing a great job caring for Dave (with help from good friends). But it is a lot. Steve does this so gladly, but he could definitely use some help.
While insurance is covering the many doctor visits, medicines, treatments, and now hospice, they do not cover additional care, like having a night nurse to keep watch and care for Dave. Steve is not getting much rest, and on top of his heart breaking (they have been together for 25 years), this is not sustainable.
It is such a sad situation, not much anyone can do. However, we can make sure Dave's last days are good, so he is comfortable and getting all he needs. We can make sure that during this very difficult time, Steve is also getting support, so he can weather through this storm. Plus - we can offer prayers for both of them.
Please join me in showing support for Dave and Steve with your donation. In addition, if you can share a happy memory, I know they both would appreciate it. Thank you.
