Dave McCollor has been fighting a heart issue called cardiomyopathy over the last six weeks that initially kept him hospitalized for six days and in recovery mode since.
On February 27th while sitting on the couch getting ready to celebrate his dad's birthday, Dave went into cardiac arrest and collapsed.
CPR was started immediately by his son in law and the ambulance and fire department were very quick to respond. Dave’s heart was found to be in an ineffective rhythm and would not convert to a normal beat no matter what the medics tried. They were able to transport him to the U of MN for a rather new procedure where they put him on ECMO (heart and lung bypass) which keeps blood and oxygen flowing through the body while they worked to fix his heart. He is currently on the ECMO along with many other devices and medications to help take over the function of his heart and lungs.
They were able to convert his heart to a normal rhythm and get him mostly stabilized for the time being. There is without question going to be damage to his body and brain from everything that happened, it is just a matter of how severe. In order to give him all the best chances at recovery they have cooled his body way down to help protect his brain.
The plan from here is to allow his body to rest and recover as much as possible till sometime late tonight (2-28-19) then start warming him back up and slowly assess things as we go. In a perfect world his body will slowly take back over its functions and there will be minimal damage, but we have a LONG way to get there and there will without a doubt be a obstacles.
As can be expected the bills do not stop for times like this. Dave and Lori have always been among the first to help anyone over the years now it is time to help them out through their time of need. Any amount is appreciated and every share of this is appreciated.
